Beaulieu House, Garden & Car Museum
Location: Drogheda, Co. Louth
Description: The premier Historic House in Co. Louth. The Plunkett family formed the estate around 1150. The present family constructed the house in the seventeenth Century. Current owner Gabriel DeFreitas is the tenth generation descendant of Sir Henry Tichborne, who defended Drogheda in the seige of 1642.
Father, Son and Grandson then consturcted the house we see today. The result is a piece of timeless Irish history, which exudes an air of tranquillity on the visitor as they explore family connections with Admiral Nelson, the Montgomery Generals. Referred in correspondence from 1723, the walled garden’s upkeep is an acknowledged credit to the family. Upon entering the four acres of terraced garden the breathtaking border draws the visitor deeper into a haven of floral and horticultural beauty.
The Museum features racing and road saloons with history and memorabilia, of one of Ireland’s Top Lady drivers and present owner of Beaulieu.
